Pont L’Abbe and Josselin

Josselin’s magnificent riverside castle

Day 7 & 8, 12 & 13 Oct 2025

Pont L’Abbe & Josselin, Brittany

We’ve had a couple of lovely lazy days.

Sunday

Yesterday, we were intending to visit Quimper until we realised we’d visited earlier this year on our way back from our Christmas break in Spain! Doh!

So we passed through and carried on to Pont L’Abbe, another spot Gareth had found on google. When we arrived at the Aire just on the edge of town, the sun was shining and it was so warm, we just sat and read our books for most of the afternoon 😄.

At about 5pm we took a leisurely stroll across the bridge into the town. Sadly, there wasn’t much to see and because it was Sunday most of the shops and restaurants were closed.

Not even a bar in the late sunshine for a drink was to be had. Oh well, you can’t win them all, so we returned to the van for dinner.

Monday

This morning was a late starting day.

We just managed to get off of the Aire before having to pay for another full day 😄.

Not to worry, we had nowhere in particular to be. Our drive today was a little longer than other days as we went via Aldi in Concarnaeu to stock up on supplies.

Our destination today was another of Brittany’s ‘Prettiest villages‘ called Josselin.

The Camping Car Park Aire is right on the river/canal and a few minutes walk from the old town centre. It’s an amazing spot.

Walking out of the Aire onto the canal path you can immediately spot the beautiful castle. Walking in front of it is amazing.

We were trying to identify where the foundation rock finished and the brick/stonework began.

There are lots of info boards dotted around, many of them with an English translation which was great.

The town is on a hill and mostly behind the castle. Even though it was Monday, it was quiet as we wandered back and forth, down little lanes and alleyways, wowing at the medieval buildings and cobbled roads.

Yes, Josselin is really pretty and worth a visit. Next time we’ll come at the weekend when hopefully it will be buzzing in all its glory.

Funnily enough, this is the first place where there has been more than one other UK van.

A Scots couple parked next to us said exactly the same thing, though they have come up from the direction we are going. And, this was my first proper conversation with anyone other than Gareth for a week! 😂

The weather’s going to be nice for the next week so we’ll continue south for a little while longer.
