This is our travelogue to figuratively “put down on paper” all those trips and places we’ve been lucky enough to visit and enjoy.

Each of the little flags in the Map above represents a place we’ve stayed in our campervan or motorhome.

It acts as a reminder as our memories start to fail us. “Have we been there?” “where was that place that we saw…?” “do you remember when we ate that …?”

To find posts and places we’ve been to in the camper and further afield, you can click any the links below we’ve uploaded so far.

More to come as time allows.

  • St Jean Pied de Port

GK Tours. Day 12 Thursday Friday 15th November 2024

Cap Breton to St Jean Pied de Port.

We had a very lazy start this morning, I popped out to the bread van at 9am for two baguettes and some croissants. There’s something special about having them brought to you ๐Ÿ˜, feels a bit like cheating.

The sun was burning off the morning mist and getting quite warm through the windows so after our showers we packed up and headed out to St Jean Pied de Port (SJPDP).

It was a lovely route, sun shining on rafting rivers with lush green hills peppered with red leaved trees, typical Basque buildings of white walls, red shutters and roofs, all in the foreground of the mountains ๐Ÿ˜.

GK Tours. Day 11 Thursday 14th November 2024

    Montfort to Cap Breton

This morning was chilly and the grass was very damp but no frost, which, I have to say I was half expecting.

Meg and I took a walk down to the river to see if the white birds were still on the tree, but as we approached we could see them flying off for the day.

Where the path ends is at what we think, in the summer is a rafting stop off. There is a toilet and a large covered seating area with lots of picnic benches and a big BBQ. It must be a very busy place at times.

The river bed is visible from the bank here and it’s quite strange because it’s not a muddy one, but rather a rock one ๐Ÿค”. The rock slabs are on their side, a bit like you see the rocks at Bude and Sandymouth. Thinking about it, we are in the valleys of the Pyrenees so it would make sense.

Anyway, because of this it sends back a very strange sort of lightish blue colour, which I expect is really pretty when the sun is shining on it.

GK Tours. Day 10 Wednesday 13th November

Cadillac sur Garonne to Montfort via Pau

We had a nice lazy start this morning, I took Meg for a walk around the village and Gareth gave the van a good sweep.

Pau was our next destination, it’s quite big but lacks any good places to stop close to the centre.

Heading due south, we had to take off our jumpers as it was really warm in the van with the sun beaming through the windscreen.

It can get really confusing knowing exactly where you are from all of the signs you pass. There are regions, departments and boroughs to get your head around and sometimes you can go through multiple changes in a day ๐Ÿฅด.

GK Tours. Day 9 Tuesday 12th November

    Royan to Cadillac sur Garonne.

This morning started lovely and sunny, but very chilly.

After depleting our supply of clean garments it was time to find a laundry. We identified a couple, one was within the complex of a very big supermarket.

Well, first we had to find a way in ๐Ÿฅด harder than you would think as most of the entrances had 2m height barriers, meaning we had to go round again. Only to realise the launderette was the furthest end of the car park – with more height barriers ๐Ÿค”. Not sure why but we decided not to stop & shop & launderette and moved on to the next nearest.

It took an hour or so but soon we were all spruced up and ready for another road trip ๐Ÿ˜.

  • Royan

GK Tours. Day 8 Monday 11th November

    Cognac to Royan.

Today before we moved on from Cognac we took a walk along the riverbank in the opposite direction. Just out of eye site of the Aire is a wooden structure in mid construction though the notice says it’s to be launched mid Nov 2024. It’s called La Maison sur le Fleuve and is going to float on the Charante River for 5 years apparently and people can access it to use its stairs and portholes. ๐Ÿค”, we shall have to come back and visit it.

The building next to our Aire is in fact the town’s old Abattoir, closed down in 1987, refurbished and now a live music venue. It’s in the perfect place, beside the river and behind the Cognac houses so no worries about noise disturbance.

We decided to visit Royan today. Gareth had read good things about it so off we set, after filling up with fuel @ โ‚ฌ1.57, a good price so far.
