This is our travelogue to figuratively “put down on paper” all those trips and places we’ve been lucky enough to visit and enjoy.

Each of the little flags in the Map above represents a place we’ve stayed in our campervan or motorhome.

It acts as a reminder as our memories start to fail us. “Have we been there?” “where was that place that we saw…?” “do you remember when we ate that …?”

To find posts and places we’ve been to in the camper and further afield, you can click any the links below we’ve uploaded so far.

More to come as time allows.

    GK Tours. Day 6 & 7 Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th November

    Ile de Re to Cognac

    Saturday

After an overcast start, the sun eventually broke through the clouds as we set off for a walk to the local town.

It’s accessible from the beach so we let Meg have a run, and a roll in dead crabs or anything smelly she could find ๐Ÿฅด.

The town is called Rivedoux, and was surprisingly busy. There was also a multiple supply of bars and patisseries. Lots of locals were meeting up, drinking before midday! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ And having a thoroughly good time in the sun.

Gareth popped into the covered market, small but full of lovely produce and then we sat for a coffee ourselves.

    GK Tours. Day 5

    Friday 8th November

La Barre-de-Monts to Ile de Re.

Wow, another great night’s sleep in the cave, think this is how it’s going to be so won’t mention it again ๐Ÿ˜.

The sun was out this morning, in fact it’s been out all day!

After breakfast we took another walk to the lovely beach via a different track. There are loads of walking and cycling routes here so bikes would have definitely been a good shout.

I’d gone out wrapped to the 9’s and was peeling layers off by the time we got back to the van. Obviously not bikini weather but definitely not winter either.

    GK Tours Day 4

    Thursday 7th November

Vannes to La Barre-de-Monts via St Nazaire

Another cave sleep last night, at this rate we’ll be starting our day at lunchtime!

Last night we had showers in the van, we are pleased to say it was a lot better than expected, especially as we have super duper heating and underfloor heating.

As soon as I got up I took Meg out for a walk around the promenade. It’s a great spot for birdwatching along the river as you can walk the whole way round, taking you through a small wood, beside sandy beaches and sailing vessels of all kinds. We passed a very posh house that I think might have been a Spa.

There are a few bars and a restaurant for refreshments, and a kiosk or two to serve the users of the river water pool – half empty today, revealing more of its beach than normal. What an excellent use of the open space.

Meg and I had to keep stopping as the paths were very busy with morning joggers.

Back at the van we packed up and set off for our next destination – St Nazaire.

    GK Tours Day 3

    Wednesday 6th November

    Dinan to Vannes

We had a a really good sleep. Honestly, this van is like a cave. It doesn’t let the light in and I, unusually was woken up by my 8am vitamin reminder ๐Ÿ˜ƒ.

So, consequently, there was no time for a nice walk for me and Meg. We had a quick breakfast and set out for Vannes in the South East of Brittany on the Gulf of Morhiban, another new destination for all of us.

It was misty again today, more like fog in our opinion, but the weather app has it as mist and who are we to argue?

Our route was through the countryside and was a very pleasant ride. We were reminded of home when we queued with a number of other vehicles behind a slow moving tractor ๐Ÿ˜. But, we had no important agenda so just enjoyed the scenery. Fields here don’t have high hedges so you can see everything that’s going on, today it was just ploughing.

Dinner on board the ferry was good

    GK Tours Day 2.

    Tuesday 5th November 2024

    St Malo & Dinan

In the past we have had some questionable ferry trips, memories of which sadly rear their ugly head when things don’t seem to be running smoothly. As we hadn’t departed from Portsmouth in a very long time we weren’t sure of how it would go.

Well, I’m pleased to say that our overnight ferry trip was excellent. Boarding was painless, the staff customer service delivery was excellent and our meal was delicious.

Making herself comfortable in the ferry cabin

So, well done to Brittany Ferries. Our departure was a bit choppy so seabands were applied, just in case, but once the wind died down, it was plain sailing.
