Rochefort En Terre and Piriac Sur Mer

Day 9, 14 Oct 2025

Rochefort En Terre, Brittany & Piriac Sur Mer, Loire Atlantique.

Today was our last stop in Brittany, another ‘pretty village’ called Rochefort En Terre.

What a gorgeous little place it is. It only has a couple of roads running through it but they are festooned with beautiful old architecture, some painted in bright colours while others have been left in the original stone.

It’s very well signposted and there are lots of info boards to educate yourself. Walking up to the Chateau through the town we passed some lovely artisan shops selling the famous cake Kouign Amann – literally butter, sugar and a little flour! A heart attack and cholesterol present all in one 😀. Of course we bought one, now we just have to work it off 😂.

The Chateau is a beautiful building. It was closed and we could see what we hope is renovation work ongoing inside.

The gardens need a little tlc but we enjoyed roaming around with Meg, imagining how amazing it must have looked in its hayday.

Coming back down to the village, we sat outside a restaurant planning on having lunch, but sadly we were advised by the waiter that dogs were not permitted, even on the terrace.

Oh well, we moved on to the next bar for a drink instead. This was the first time we’ve experienced this on this trip and it took us a little by surprise. It’s definitely not normal for France.

Moving on and leaving Brittany behind we drove into the next region, Loire-Atlantique and picked a seaside village, Piriac sur Mer for our evening stop.

Arriving early afternoon, we had a lunch in the van and then walked into town and the port.

The tide was out so Meg got a good run on the beach and did lots of investigating among the rocks.

Its a pretty little town with a few old buildings and was very busy with tour groups and school groups

Even though the sun was shining, the wind had a chill to it, so we stopped for a beer and coffee in a hotel bar that had glass walls 😁 before heading back.

The Aire is really close to town but is not busy, there are only 4 vans here, but room for 18 altogether. Still, it should be a quiet night.
