Rome to Pescia Romana
Wow, the little camperstop in Rome was just €21 + €4 tourist tax, what a bargain.
We decided to head for a beach to relax for a few days and give the driver a couple of days off. So have been staying at a great little camping village in Pescia Romana, just a couple hours north of Rome. We are just south of Tuscany, still in the Lazio region and, if you could see that far, right opposite the islands of Corsica and Sardinia
. Just up the road is another island called Elba where Napoleon spent some of his exile.
The campsite is called Gita Village Friends Club.

To be completely honest we haven’t done much at all.
Visited the beach on our arrival, decided it was lovely, had a very nice meal in the restaurant (faith is now restored in campsite restaurants), watched Man City beat Inter Milan in the bar (the Inter fans didn’t have much of a chance to get emotional) and then took Meg for another run along the beach tonight when the heat of the day was waining.

There’s a great field for dogs here so she hasn’t gone without her runs, just choosing to do them early and late. She has spent most of her time in the van hiding from the heat, though it is cooler out in the breeze in the shade
.
We’re not sure if all Italian campsites are the same, (Specchiolla was just sorting it’s beach when we were there) but it seems that all of the beaches are private and you have to book sunloungers and umbrellas. We sat on some just to admire the view and got nicely hoofed off by a couple who had had those particular ones allocated to them.
We weren’t planning on staying on the beach so just apologised and moved on.
The beach was quite windy so the sea was choppy, added to that it was quite steep so we didn’t let Meg go in, not that she has complained
.

A lot of family groups turned up for the weekend, it was lovely watching them all gather together for BBQs and games. They have just left and the site feels empty.
The other strange thing we have noticed is that the campsites have a quiet hour. Specchiolla’s lasted for 2 hours but here it’s 3! So no vans are allowed to pitch up or leave between the hours of 1pm and 4pm, unless like us you stay on the camperspots with minimal shade. We are glad we chose this spot as we’ve had lots of space and it’s been a very peaceful and calm stay.
We start our homeward journey tomorrow.
