23rd & 24th May
Bonifacio to Ajaccio via Olmeta & Tizzano, Corsica
Friday
We were quite glad to leave the little aire in Bonifacio. It was noisy, steep and dusty. But needs must if you want to visit some of these places.
Now for those in the know, having the van relatively level makes van life a lot easier. When we can’t, as sometimes chocks just don’t level it enough, it messes with your head. And in my case that shows itself in dropping stuff, banging my head on cupboards etc and losing my balance. It only needs to be a little bit out and I’m useless. So much so Gareth keeps an extra eye on ‘Calamitous Kelly’
.
So, we had a couple of nights left to stay somewhere before we made our way to Ajaccio for our early morning ferry to Sardinia on Monday.
We chose a lovely little campsite tucked down at the end of a valley with good access to a beach.
Coming off the main country road, we made our way to Tizzano. It was like being back on North Devon roads, narrow, broken edges and tight bends, all whilst going downhill. Finally we arrived, but, we could see that something was wrong.

Our fears were confirmed by a lady who came out to meet us, they were closed until tomorrow, sorry.
We had used the ACSI app to find it and their dates did not confer with the campsite. How disappointing but more than that, we had to make the journey back up to the main road with no reward
. C’est la vie.
A lot of the other campsites available were either on a hill or far from the beach, so we thought, bugger it, lets just go back to the lovely one in Olmeta.
When we checked in, the young man on reception recognised our name and smiled, yes, we have come back
. Bless him.
So, we’ve spent the weekend lazing on the steeply banked beach. It wasn’t a problem as we parked ourselves by the rocks with a bit of shelter from the sea breeze, the beach wasnt so steep here and Meg got to have a good old off-lead rummage.

We had BBQ for dinner both nights and sat out until it got dark. Such a lovely site. Reading their website they pride themselves on old fashioned camping – like back in the 70’s
.
This morning we moved on to Ajaccio and have pitched up at the beach just by the airport. It was really busy with lots of wind/kite surfy people on the water and sunbathers on the sand.

We can’t get parked on the port unusually. Most ferry ports have somewhere for you to wait for your ferry, especially if it’s an early one, but sadly Ajaccio does not. There are a few car parks we may have been able to get into but they are right on the very busy road so we opted out of that choice.
So, we are parked back by the beach, the view is lovely, the sun is just going down and we have set an early alarm to make the ferry to Sardinia.

Tell you more about that tomorrow
