GK Tours 2025. Sunday 29th June to Tuesday 1st July
Kochel to Landsberg am lech and Olching (Munich), Germany
Sunday.
So this last week has mostly been spent hiding from the sun.
We moved on from the lake at Kochel to Landsberg am lech. We spent the afternoon in the shade until it was cool enough to take a wander into town.
While we were waiting, the heat finally got to Gareth, after another failed attempt at an afternoon kip. Over a cuppa he searched for an Airbnb close by and booked it. A room by a lake in the shade
yahoo.
Feeling a little elated, we trundled into Landsberg town.
The old town is beautiful, medieval buildings glowing in beautiful colours, adorned with intricate paintings and ornate ironwork, denoting the trade of the occupiers.

There was a castle but you know the story, we grabbed a picture of it from the high street
.
We did congratulate the municipality for having one of the prettiest town halls we have seen so far. In Germany, they’re called Rathaus.

The lovely thing about these bavarian towns is that the facades of the buildings are all different. Makes us wonder if maybe there was a tax to pay if you copied your neighbour ![]()
.
There also seemed to be a lot more holiday visitors roaming around too. We stopped for a drink in the main square and people watched while soaking up the lovely view. I was approached by a couple of guys asking where a certain festival was….this has been happening a lot and I have to apologise that I’m not local. Gareth says it’s because I look German!

On the way back to the van we spotted a greek restaurant, we could not resist, so stopped for dinner.
The portions were mahoosive so half of it went back to the van with us. It was delicious too and so, as you can guess, the conversation over dinner was all about Greece
.
Monday.
Before going to the airbnb we popped up to a huge motorhome sales with a shop, about an hours drive away. We were looking for odds and sods and had some time to kill. They have an Aire style carpark you can use opposite the shop. We had stopped there on a previous trip.
When we arrived in the carpark we noticed a group of vans doing a huge tour.

They have come from China, it will take them 160 days and 40,000 km to complete the round trip. Blimey!
And funnily enough we have seen them before, a couple of years ago but we couldn’t remember where.
Onto the lakehouse and our charming Airbnb on Olching See.
We met our lovely host Konstanz who let us in to our ensuite garden room.
Its right on lake Olchingsee. It was beautiful, very busy with afterschool crowds, clear water with beautifully coloured fish and wild fowl swimming with their babies.

The only downside to this idyllic spot was that dogs aren’t allowed from April to September.
Konstanze did say that once everyone had gone home we could sneak her in but, much to our surprise, the lake was busy until really late.
It didn’t bother Meg, she really only goes in to save people so she wasn’t concerned about the restriction. Gareth and I took full advantage of the garden, sitting under the trees or the awning and taking turns for a dip in the lake.
300m away there was a restaurant but, sods law, not open on a Monday. Oh well, as there was no kitchen in our little room, we went back to the carpark where we had left the van and had a salad for dinner. Haha, thank goodness for the van
.
Tuesday
Today was much the same, doing nothing apart from walks with Meg, bless her.
She could have played with the resident dog Gaia, who was a gorgeous, placid Belgian Malinois but no, she wasnt interested. Poor Gaia, she didn’t give up and you could see her trying to figure out why Meg didn’t want to play.
After swims and showers we walked Meg and then popped into the restaurant, it’s called Villa Romantika, is Italian so we thought we were going to have to have pizza but no, there was a very good menu and specials to select from
, that put smiles on our faces.
You would not believe how busy this place was. The only one on the lake, a bar in the beer garden plus an ice-cream parlour made it very popular. The food was delicious too.
