Day 5, 10 Oct 2025
Le Faou & Saint Nic, Brittany
Another lovely morning greeted us as we took a walk up the river bank into Le Faou, a village with medieval houses in a little high street.
Le Faou is famous for its shipbuilding back in the day, due to its proximity to a great wood supply.
Our first stop was the church Saint Sauveur, situated on the banks of the river next to the bridge.
The church was beautiful inside. Firstly you are greeted in the porch by wooden statues of the 12 apostles and once inside you are surprised by the amount of stained glass windows and idols on the walls. Just lovely.
Walking around the corner from the church you are immediately on the main road. Most of the buildings are shops etc, though some are residences. They are all well presented and great examples of ancient houses.
We stopped for a coffee – no pastry today 
– in the sunshine. Can’t believe how lucky we have been with the weather so far.
I popped into a grocers for some fruit and veg and then into the boulangerie for a baguette. The people have been so nice, everyone has had a smile on their face 
.
As it was still early in the day we decided to move on to a beach Gareth had spotted on google about 35 mins drive away.
We are near the village of Saint Nic, parked at the side of the beach, a huge beach, with nothing but the sea for company.
When we arrived the tide was way out. It was a good 5 minute walk to the water. There weren’t a lot of people about until after school and work hours. Then we had myriad of people arriving.
A party of ladies set up a table and chairs and had sundowners all together.
Children were having surfing lessons. But all day sand yachts were speeding up and down on the water’s edge having the time of their lives.
We sat with our chairs and table on the beach reading, while Meg dug holes in the sand and tried to eat the little jumping bugs she exposed! Gross!
We watched the sun dip below the horizon and then headed into the van for dinner.
The tide is nearly up, evident by the noise from the waves and we have been joined by a few other vans for the night. Hopefully we’ll have a peaceful one. Happy Friday everyone.
