Roses

Day 20-22, 25th to 27th Oct 2025

Roses, Costa Brava, Spain

We did a lot of motorway driving to get to Roses, (a town we had previously visited 4 years ago) in decent time.

We were quite surprised at the amount of lorries on the road as it was a Saturday, and those of you familiar with French laws, will know that unless you are refrigerated or not far from your destination, you are supposed to park up for the weekend. Maybe the rules have changed .

It was a very warm and sunny day as we trundled along the motorway, feeling very sorry for the opposite carriageway vehicles, as they were stuck in a huge accident-related tailback.

Anyway we made good time, choosing one of 3 campsites near the beach in Roses. This one is just super, Camping Salata.

There is a programme of entertainment for adults and kids. An outdoor heated swimming pool, a small spa, bar, shop and restaurant. Its a great location too, less than 5 mins to the lovely promenade and wide bay beach of Roses.

The facilities are spot on too. We have decided we would definitely visit this one again next time we are this way.

In the summer the cost is plus 75€/night, but at this time of year with our ACSI card we paid 32€/night for an upgraded pitch – water on the pitch and a bigger space. Ooh get us, splashing the cash! .

We have been to the beach/promenade every day. Sadly dogs are not allowed on the beach itself, though we did see this rule being flouted. Meg had enough exercise with us walking up and down the prom so didn’t need beach time, thank goodness, honestly, the amount of sand we have taken out of this van is enough to set up our own Costa Brava!

The van has had a good clean, the onsite laundry was great and we are once again fully stocked with clean everything .

The kids on site have enjoyed some halloween parties and the public areas, shop, bar and reception have been delightfully decorated. I had to compliment them on the great display, it needed noting .

They really made an effort

It was actually really lovely being back in Spain. Yes, I admit I was resisting it, as I wanted to spend more time in France, but once we had arrived, I realised that, in fact it is bloody lovely.

Food and bars are open all day, apart from rain one evening into the morning, the sun has been shining. There has been a chilly breeze, but when you are out of it, it has been very warm.

This little stop has seen us eat out for lunch every day. Unheard of for us really. But who can resist tellinas, chiperones (baby squid in batter), olives & alioli, grilled Sardines, Squid and of course Paella .
