Sunday 26th April 2026 Brucoli, Sicily
We had such a peaceful night in this free park-up, most of the cars disappeared quite early and left just us campers overnight.
Rising early and after a quick Meg walk, we took a meander to the village.
Firstly we visited the beach. There is a part that is free from seaweed and suitable to spend a few hours if you fancied. Most of the beach is used for parking boat trailers 
, there is a boat store on the beach road as well as a Sosta that we weren’t aware of. The campers were packed in like sardines so we were happy not to have known about it.
The village consists of 3 roads, the main road runs down to the castle does a little dog’s leg and then back up, out of the village. Then there’s a road in the middle that is mainly residential. So at least you can’t get lost.
There is a Piazza besides the water and another in front of the castle.
Walking back onto the main street from the beach road we passed a few fresh fish shops – open on a sunday morning? Blimey, they were busy too.
We found the bakery and purchased some goodies which included spinach pie for dinner.
We found a really funky bar/restaurant that was just setting up for the day and asked if we could have a drink. It was ok so we took a seat on the deck outside by the rocks and the seaspray. Was it only 10.30am? Well, it was definitely beer O’Clock somewhere, so I had a Messina (this time only €3) and Gareth had a coffee.
It was such a lovely spot.
Moving on we explored the rest of the village. The castle is shut, looks like some more restoration is in the pipeline, there’s a permanent children’s small fairground which we assume was open last night for the celebrations.
The houses here are just one or two storey and as you get closer to the castle, murals start to appear on their walls. Most of them depict the village and adds to the charm of this little unassuming place.
While I was waiting outside the bakery for Parker, a customer came out with a sack of bread. It took him ages to get to his car as everyone was saying hello and chatting to him, cars driving by were beeping their horns, gosh, what a friendly little place, reminded me of Bradworthy 
.
Oh yes, we also bought 2 punnets of strawberries for €1 each and a kg of mandarins for €3 from a couple of street sellers. All delicious.
We had worked up a hunger and Gareth had a hankering for squid. We couldn’t see any on a menu in a restaurant that wasn’t already busy, so popped into one that was advertising a Menu del Giorno – menu of the day.
On offer was tagliatelle and fish ragu followed by a side salad and peppered mussels. Included was bread, coffee and water for €20 each. Bargain! And yes it was bloomimg lovely 
. Gareth had a lemon soda while I had another beer! 
Walking back to the van, we popped into the still open supermarket for some water and followed the back road home.
On the way, we noticed people walking up a dirt track and so, being nosy, we followed them.
This path took us out to what the locals call a fjord. There are caves in the low cliffs and a small beach which leads to a small marina sheltered behind the fjord rock face. Amazing, you would never know it was there! What a great spot and no wonder now why this little village is so popular.
We were really impressed with Brucoli, they understand the benefit of providing a free spot for campers, we spent at least €100 euros on food and gifts while we were there so the town benefited from our ‘free’ stay.
And we would definitely stop here again if we find ourselves on Sicily in the future.
