Monday 8th June 2026. Macerata and Numana, Le Marche, Italy
Monday came and we moved on to Mascerata, which apparently is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe.
Its a beautiful hill town, sleepy in the heat. We think the school holidays have kicked in, so maybe it’s more quiet than usual.
Running from shade to shade we reached the main square. It was over 30 degrees, not ideal for touring.
However, Mascerata is definitely worth a visit.
There’s a beautiful square with a clock tower and the added bonus of an astrological clock too.
There are a few loggias here with smart shops and bars lining them.
After a quick lunch of tuna salad and pizza bread, we did a quick scout round the shaded lanes before literally hot-footing it back to the van.
Sadly, we didn’t do Ascoli Piceno or Macerata justice at all.
Not even our usual speed tourism was called upon. It was just too noisy or far too hot. We’ve entered the “Tour Fatigue” mode we often find ourselves in.
Not to worry though, another good excuse to come back again 
.
We headed towards Ancona and are now doing nothing at all on a campsite by the sea in a coastal town called Numana.
The campsite is Camping La Medusa.
Frustratingly, its another ‘no dogs’ on the beach area, not a problem though as its too hot!
We popped across for a stroll along the beach last night and had a lovely meal and a bottle of wine while the sun set in a beach restaurant run by a charming Italian family.
Nothing much occurred during our stay at the campsite.
Rain was threatened and we got all but a couple of spits, so no need to batten down the hatches and whip the washing in 
. A good thing with this site was that there was a great dog field at the back which Meg really enjoyed visiting.
We popped to the bar a couple of times but the young Italian rap music saw us off eventually. We must be getting old!
