Wednesday 3rd June and Thursday 4th June 2026
Peschici, Puglia, Italy
Moving further up the coast we chose Peschici. Another little hilltop town set against the Adriatic coast.
There was a threat of rain this afternoon so we decided to stay on site for the evening. There is direct access to a lovely beach and a bar/restaurant and a shop is attached to the site. Another great find.
Tonight we ate in and then sat under the awning watching the thunderstorm. The lightning was pretty good, shooting around the bay and over the town, which we could see perched atop the hill from our pitch.
Then the rain came.
Boy did it pour, we had to go in eventually as the breeze was sending it in under the already lowered awning!
Anyway Thursday came as fresh as a daisy.
Meg and I took our early morning mooch along the water’s edge – though there wasn’t much beach as the sunbeds take up a lot of the waterfront and the waves were still choppy from the storm.
The temperature was cooler too, dropping to about 22° so we all took the opportunity to walk into town.
Its about a 15 minute walk, some along the beach and then a lot of climbing of steps
, thank goodness for 22°!

Peschici old town is a dinky little place, there aren’t that many cafes and bars, those that were within the old walls weren’t open yet.
Every little lane has archways, none are wide enough for cars, so that was a plus. It’s cute, unpretentious but sadly lacking in more character.

There are info boards in English and there is evidence of properties being restored. Interestingly, there are a lot of properties built directly into the rock, some only evident by the tall chimney stacks coming from their roofs
.

We eventually came through one of the old town gates into the new town and found a lovely place to stop for a drink.
As we wandered back into the centre we came across a gorgeous little pastry and cake shop. Oh dear! What to buy? There was so much to choose from, we decided on a mixed selection of about 5
, we couldn’t wait to get home and have them with a cup of tea
.
Tucked away in a corner we also found an olive oil shop, based in an old oil mill. There was so much on offer and the old man doing the selling was lovely.
Gareth bought some lemon infused olive oil, a local speciality. It tastes lovely!

Feeling a little hungry we stopped at a takeaway where they make the local street food with Paposce – lovely Apulian bread stuffed with local ingredients – a bit like a panini. Omg! It was deelishus. We had to use restraint and not order one each
, don’t forget we still had the cakes to eat
.

Now satiated, we started the downhill descent to the beach and the campsite, taking care on the shiny marble flagstones and cobbles…well, we are over 40! We took a few photos at the carved rock statue at the end of the mole.

We lounged around the van for the rest of the day and then, leaving Meg in the van, we popped into the restaurant for dinner.
Yummy grub again as you can imagine, we have really enjoyed the seafood in Puglia. A half carafe of wine was €4.50, another bargain!

While we sat watching the sun set, a group of horses and riders came along the beach on a hack, what a lovely sight.

Not sure if we are going to stay another day yet. We’ll see how we feel tomorrow.
