Day 49. Tuesday 4th June 2024.
Naxos to Finale, Sicily.
We didn’t take a wander around Naxos as the weather forecast had changed drastically and the day was full of rain showers 
.
Instead we headed towards Palermo and found a great little campsite called Camping & Village Rais Gerbi on the headland just outside Finale. About 1.5hrs drive from Palermo so perfect for the ferry.
This site seemed small but was very deceiving. It’s actually like a holiday village. They have little cabins, white igloo houses (Gareth kept calling them Hobbit homes), and also loads of places for tents, caravans and motorhomes on terraced pitches.
As we are on the headland there is no beach but you can get to the water vis some steep slopes and steps. You have to tread very carefully on the huge pebbles once you’re down there 
.
There’s tennis courts, a children’s playground, 5-aside football pitch and a lovely swimming pool. By reception there’s a small shop for essentials – bread and such, and then a pizza restaurant.
The strangest thing about this site is that the railway line runs sort of through the middle of it. Because the line is down an embankment you don’t really hear the trains, the line then runs into a tunnel, under the rest of the site and next door properties .
The owners were really friendly and after explaining we were getting a ferry the next day, offered us late checkouts for another €10 . We gladly accepted as the campsite was a much better prospect than sitting on a road near the port in Palermo.
Meg was getting annoyed by the ants but wanted to stay out of the van with us. I tried her on the elevated dog bed we have dragged around with us all of this time and finally she sat and totally relaxed on it. Yes, I felt that my decision to not throw it away had been vindicated .
Our chosen spot gave us a great view over the water, there were nicer ones but they were already occupied.
We had dinner in the pizza restaurant that night, maybe our last pizza in Italy so thought, why not!.
