Day 21
15.4.23.
Dubrovnik, Croatia
Believe it or not, we were up and parked in Dubrovnik by 9.19. yes, that’s 19 minutes past 9am!
Concerned that we may not get a place in the car park and wanting to beat the crowds spurred us on. The car park is just 500m from the entrance to the old town

What a beautiful place. Gareth loves castles (what male doesn’t) and was in his element.
I love the old buildings, the red tiles on the roofs and the knack that residents have of squeezing terraces into the tiniest of spaces, bringing colour where they can in pots and seeing higgledy piggledy layers of buildings all squashed in. Sometimes it’s hard to make out where one building begins and another ends.
Dubrovnik is stunning.
After all it’s gone through, they are sympathetically putting it back together. The buildings are beautiful. We’re not sure how many in total had to be rebuilt after the ’91 war of Independence but in all honesty, you can’t tell with the naked eye.

A bonus for us was that Meg was welcomed on the walls and everywhere except museums and churches (fine with us). It was a joy to see her poking her nose in every crevice, running up and down the steps while we struggled somewhat
and peering over the walls where she could – she was just looking for pigeons and lizards truth be told. Everyone loved Meg and today she had more than her fair share of petting from strangers.
As the morning wore on, it got busier with tour groups, so we were very lucky to have arrived early to get the best unbarred views.
Today we had our most expensive cup of coffee but the view couldn’t be bought.

Excluding the Games of Thrones stuff, there is so much to please the eye, you could be here all day. As it was we managed just under 4 hours, which is very good for us.

The walk back up to the car park was very testing on our legs, eased a little by an ice-cream each
, our floors total on the Fitbit totalled 78! More than we’ve done in the last 3 days combined
.
Leaving Dubrovnik we drove into Montenegro, country number 8.
We are currently in Kotor.
