Palombaggia.

Sunday 18th to Wednesday 21st May

Propriano to Palombaggia and to Marina d’Oru, Corsica

Well, we havent done much other than laze about on beaches πŸ˜‚.

We stayed at the lovely campsite in Tenutella on Sunday night. The day was spent relaxing by the van, walking Meg on the beach and a lounge by the pool for me while Gareth had a siesta.

Sadly, we said goodbye to the friendly owners of the site, so smiley everytime you approached them, and drove towards Porto Vecchio. It was another sunny morning with temperatures of 27Β° promised by the weather app.

Instead of Porto Vecchio, we headed for a camperstop in Palombaggia. There are a couple of dirt carparks in a pine forest, one of which has direct access to the beautiful famous beach of Palombaggia.

The parkup has emptying facilities and you can order bread and croissants for the morning, always a nice touch.

The beach definitely lives up to it’s hype. There was hardly anyone on it the whole time we were there and, if you didn’t know any better you would have thought you were in the carribean.

Of course, we had to stay for 2 nights πŸ˜‚.

Tuesday morning brought loud claps of thunder and lightning though, one while I was going back into the van. Flipping heck, it made me swear as I jumped out of my skin! It had moved from out on the sea to right above my head!.

The rain and thunder cleared early but the sea was quite wild for the rest of the day with a strong onshore breeze.

We are still learning how to use our van and for only the 2nd occasion we ran the lithium battery down, not on purpose.

As it was so warm on our arrival we had opted to park under the trees. This meant that the solar panel wasn’t taking any charge for the battery. The next morning we moved the van to a sunny spot as it was going to be a cooler day. Though the battery looked at near optimum charge, after using the airfryer for the 2nd night, kettles, lights, charging and the electric fridge all calling for power, at about 9pm last night, we had a warning to say we were running low.

Had this been daytime we could have run the engine for a bit of a recharge on the B2B, but it was too late for that so we just turned everything off before we went to bed.

This morning, after a few minutes in the sun, the solar had charged the battery enough to turn everything back on. Phew! It wasn’t a problem, the worst part was having to boil water on the gas hob, so no complaints from us 😁.

Meg had a well deserved off-lead run on the beach this morning. She loved it, no one else on there, though there was a rock or two that caused her some concern 😊, funny girl.

Whilst looking for a site today, we noticed a carwash where we could wash this very dusty van.

With this in mind we skipped Porto Vecchio – we have to come back past it to get the ferry to Sardinia in a week or so, and will pop in then.

and headed towards a clean, shiny van πŸ˜‚. Yes, it may only last for a few hours in this weather but after, Gareth remarked how nice it was for him to see a shiny van in his side window πŸ˜‚. Bless him.

Once the van was washed we carried on up the coast to Ghisonaccia and a campsite called Arinella Bianca offering ACSI discount. We had to choose our pitch, which is always a bugbear of mine, but the receptionist was sooooo nice, I just went along with it.

As it was, we had a walk around and chose what we think is a really great spot πŸ˜€. We’ll see how good it is in the morning as we have a big crowd of youngens on site who are walking backwards and forwards to the onsite bar and restaurant πŸ˜€

Once we had set up we went down to the beach. Another lovely sandy spot with beautiful blue seas, and lots of space for us to let Meg have a little bit of time off lead.

The waves were quite big so she wasn’t up for going in, though she accompanied Gareth to the water’s edge, just in case he needed saving πŸ₯°.

We sat there for a couple of hours watching the french version of the Red Arrows going through their routines. Sorry, we didn’t get good shots or video.

To be honest, the skies have been very busy with military aircraft everywhere we’ve been on the island.

Walking back to the van, we passed the menu for the restaurant. Ooooh pizza! Oh yes, we had pizza again. A Calzone for Gareth and a spicy salami and gorgonzola one for me. I did contribute, I had to make a salad to go with it πŸ˜‚. Delicious it was indeed, with just a little piece left for snacking later 😁.

Not sure what we are going to do tomorrow as its supposed to rain all day, so we’ll wait and see how bad it actually is before we decide.
