Propriano

Friday 16th and Saturday 17th May

Sagone to Olmeto, nr Propriano Corsica

Friday

There was another visit this morning from the Sea Planes. Just as we were about to leave the carpark in Sagone they came overhead again, same manoeuvres as before, landing on the water and then coming around for another go.

We are beginning to think we’re quite lucky or we are being followed 😂.

Today we thought we would go to Ajaccio, the capital of Corsica.

There aren’t many places to park a van in the city, close enough to walk in, and we reckoned that by the time we arrived, the only spaces available close enough to walk in would be full.

Once again, our problem is Meg – a nice problem to have we think – but pets aren’t allowed on public transport as a general rule in France.

Anyway, we looked to see what was on offer and decided that Napoleon Bonaparte’s birth house wasn’t a big enough pull. With this in mind we drove past Ajaccio and instead opted for a campsite near a big coastal town called Propriano.

Quite frankly, the windy roads were becoming a bit of a pain in the backside. I feel sorry for Parker as there is no other choice and he has done so well keeping his cool.

Narrow bridge to negotiate!

The scenery is just gorgeous, that does not change. We are still amazed at how green and lush the hills are. There’s still snow on the mountain tops and the roadside wildflowers are just beautiful, adding myriad colour to the rocky edges.

Today we passed groups of motorbikers out on rideouts and a few sports car groups too 🥰.

We chose an ACSI campsite again, called Camping Ras L’ Bol, the discount is just too much to miss out on.

Theres a great pool area and the facilities are top notch. We are camped under pine trees but can move around to be in or out of the sun as we need.

It’s not very busy, so lovely and quiet at night too. There’s a beach opposite which we visited in the afternoon. The access is very steep, hopefully they’ll improve that before it gets busy.

The sand is coarse and the sea is quite lively with a deep bank just under the surface. We didn’t throw the ball in for Meg, she was happy to chase it up and down the sand.

She’s getting better at relaxing, digging a hole right underneath Gareth’s chair and sitting in the shade, though every intruder gets a rumbling growl – how dare they come onto Meg’s beach!

When it got a little breezy we went back to the van. Parker needed a siesta so Meg and I went for a walk to the local bakery and supermarket.

We were glad to get back to the van as it got hot again. I keep checking the footpath surfaces with the back of my hand, just to make sure it’s not too hot for her paws. Must look like a right loon!

Saturday

We decided to stay another day in this lovely spot. The van got a good clean, washing was done and then we popped out to see Propriano. Problem was, it got hot again, so by the time we got to the outskirts of town, we weren’t up for a town walk! 😁

Nevermind, we shopped for groceries and beer then returned to the campsite, popping back over to the beach for a couple of hours for Meg to stretch her legs.

As the beach is quite steep and the sand is coarse, its really hard to run on and even Meg was finding it difficult, she preferred to bury the ball rather than bring it back for another throw 😁.

We didn’t have lunch today so we had an early dinner. Gareth cooked our first BBQ of the trip and it was flipping lovely. As the sun was still up we ate outside too 😁. Less mozzies and midgies to contend with at that time of day.

It’s funny that we still haven’t seen another UK plate yet. We’re beginning to think we’re the only one’s on this beautiful island 😃.
