Thursday 15th May
Ota to Sagone, Corsica
We all slept soundly last night and were woken by beautiful bird song. It was all around us.
It didn’t take long to pack up and we headed off towards Sagone.
The road was, once again on the coast and through what we think was the national park.
Sometimes the width of the road was down to one lane, around tight bends too.
What was different on the road today was the amount of big tour coaches. The passengers must have had their hearts in their mouths for some of the journey. I’m not even sure how they manoeuvred themselves around some of the tight turns.
Todays wow factor has to be the rock formations. Blimey, you’d be forgiven for thinking that any minute now one of them was going to slide off of the mountain. And there were a few that looked carved, such are the shapes they are at present.
We passed one labeled the Tete du Chien and you’ll see why. I can’t stop laughing at myself as once I saw a face in the rocks, I keep seeing them everywhere!

A traffic jam was caused by roaming goats
, they were so cute to watch, some looked like they were butting others to get them moving
.
Maybe I’m just getting cabin fever
.

There weren’t any lovely shacks to stop at today, instead we passed through a few villages, with no carparks big enough for us. It didn’t matter as within a couple of hours we arrived in Sagone.
We’ve parked on a big (free) sandy carpark opposite a lovely beach. It appears that rallies and village events are often in the carpark, so we were lucky that it was free today.

Almost immediately we locked up and shot across the road to dip our feet in the sea.
The beach is lined with bars and restaurants so we chose one with deckchairs on the beach and had a cold drink each.
Then, of course, we thought we’d try some lunch
. Yum yum, i had a huge salad with chicken pieces and lots of tzatziki, and Gareth had a grilled whole seabass with fries, salad and veg. It was very filling and lovely.

After lunch we got changed into swimgear and took a chair and beachmat back over. Meg had a run and then we settled down for a read. Bless Meg, she dug a hole in the sand under Gareth’s chair and went to sleep. That’s the first time she has relaxed on the beach.

We took a walk along the shore and then Gareth had his first proper swim in the sea. Must have needed a wee!
Meg bless her, swam out to him and enjoyed floating as Gareth held her steady in the water.
We think she thinks shes a lifeguard and is telling him to come back out of the water ![]()
As the day wound on, clouds started to skip in front of the sun. We took this opportunity to sit outside a really quirky little bar with a very interesting garden. It’s very shabby chic and everywhere you look you see something different. The owner is a really trendy french lady – that figures.
We had an icecream and a drink. I’ve discovered they do cherry flavoured beer here Pietra Rossa, its blooming lovely, especially when the sun is beating down
.

After this, as it got a little bit breezy, we packed up and headed back to the van. Then it got really hot again! This gave us the chance to try the new 12v fan we bought last year but never used. It worked well, thank goodness.
I waited for the sun to disappear over the hills before I started making dinner. It was a packet Thai green curry as I needed to use up some green beans
.
It’s really strange that as soon as the sun went down it got damp, and thank goodness, has cooled down somewhat.
Hopefully off to the big town tomorrow.
