Mari Ermi to San Teodoro via Santa Lucia, Sardinia
Sunday 8th June
Sunday morning we packed up and headed across the island to a small campsite near, what was reported to be a beautiful beach.
We chose the ACSI campsite (Camping Salema) as it was the last date of discount available. Wondering why the discount period ended early – normally ends the end of June – we discovered that schools had broken up for the summer.
And boy, did we know it at this new site!
Firstly, the camper spots were under pine trees, great, but you had to manoeuvre really carefully to avoid the narrow gaps between the trees.
Well, Parker wasn’t phased and we made it into our spot without too much hastle. Had we been in the other van we would definitely have gone somewhere else.
There was a lovely swimming pool and bar/restaurant that we didn’t use . The childrens play area was there too, actually one of the better ones we’ve seen and had lots of shade.
The beach was through a sand dune and pine wood areas, about a 5 minute walk from our pitch.
Apparently the next door campsite had recently turned camper spots into cabin spots and that was the reason why our site was so busy. We also noticed the sign for Happy Camp, the 2nd one we’ve seen at the entrance to our campsite.
Monday 9th June
Both days lots of happy little children walked by with the holiday club reps on their way to the beach. That took us back to when ours were little.
The beach suffered from seaweed, lots of it. It would have been nice to see active raking to clear it everyday, but people still used it.
At one point where a tributary ends at the beach, there was a huge collection of seaweed which you had to cross to get to a clear part of beach. The seawater mingled with the seaweed and was just gruesome to walk through. It certainly made me screech a little 
. Even Meg had to be encouraged through it .
Once on the other side it was fine and you could get into the sea.
We were just 500m from the little village of Santa Lucia and took a walk down there to break up the day. We were really surprised at the amount of bars and restaurants in this tiny place.
We went back for evening drinks at a rooftop cocktail bar and then had a lovely meal.
Tuesday 10th June
We decided to move further up the coast to be nearer Olbia for our ferry on Friday.
No ACSI choices now so we chose a site with good reviews for welcoming dogs called: Camping Cala D’Ambra
Once again this site has trees for natural shade, a stoney/sandy beach right on our doorstep and if you walk around the corner, a lovely sandy one with a hotel/ bar right on the beach. There’s also a very trendy pool bar and nightclub next door to the hotel for the younger crowd.
What can I say. This place is soooo chilled. The dog loves it, we love it. It’s the perfect spot to hide from the current high temperatures. I have actually been going into the sea!
We’ve walked along the beach late afternoon for a drink at the hotel bar a couple of times and then gone and sat on the beach in front of the campaite from 5pm (once it had cooled down enough) for a couple of hours.
Wednesday 11th June
Wednesday early we walked into the main town, San Teodoro, not far but uphill on the way there 
. Its a very lovely little town with some individual shops, and quite a few cafes etc.
You can see that it must get busy at night as there are some really nice places to eat.
Meg spends most of the day sleeping or panting, so getting her to come into the sea really cools her down. She’s then happy to just sit on ‘Lizard watch’ 
bless her little heart.
Thursday 12th June
On Thursday afternoon I walked Meg into town. We were hoping to get an appointment at the vets to get her nails clipped.
Its only an 18min walk, we did as much as we could in the shade, but when we got there it was closed for the day! Its only open from 16.30 to 18.30 as it is 
.
Still the walk did us good and when we got back we went for a dip 
. After having a swim each, I put my chair at the waters edge and sat with my feet and hands in the sea. It’s bloody lovely.
Gareth’s really loving having a swim, I just have to hold on to Meg so she doesn’t go out to rescue him, yes it’s cute but she won’t go back to the beach unless you go with her, so you don’t get to relax in the water , 1st world problems eh?
Friday 13th June
This morning, Friday, we decided to pop out and get this van washed. Honestly, the other sites we have been on were so dusty, it has changed its colour. It got so bad we grimaced when opening the back doors.
A carwash just 5 mins drive away gave Gareth the opportunity to restore it to it’s shiny best, while I wiped and cleaned inside. A little bit of shopping in the local Eurospin and we were sorted with enough supplies for the weekend.
Anyway, it’s so peaceful and relaxing here we’ve, once again, changed our ferry . We’re now booked on the day crossing to Civitavecchia on Monday. In the meantime we’re just gonna chill.
