GK Tours 2025. Tuesday 24th June
Chioggia, Italy
Tuesday morning we took our time getting ready and then decided to try another beach, this one, dog friendly was near Venice in a little place called Chioggia, Veneto.
There’s one thing this heat has been good for and that’s making us go to places we haven’t seen yet.
Once again there are a few campsites and Aires to chose from, so we chose the one closest to the old town called Area Sosta 2 Palme (2 palms)
I must say, it was nothing like we imagined it to be.
There was one road in and it ran down between the massive – Lido controlled – beach and the hotels and residences.
Our plan was to wait out the heat till the end of the day, go to the beach for an hour and then visit the old town.
Well, we could not drum up the enthusiasm for the beach. Meg was begrudgingly going for her toilet breaks. As soon as she was done she was heading back home, so we hid under the shade of the trees by the van.
We showered in the van and then walked across to the old town at about 7pm. The walk takes you down along side the fishing fleet. We had never seen so many proper fishing boats in one place.
To get to the old town you then have to cross a bridge built on an island in the lagoon, with only 2 parts available for small craft to pass under. You then cross a small water way on a smaller bridge to arrive on the main thoroughfare.

What a delight this little place is. It’s a teeny weeny Venice.
It has a couple of really pretty bridges, restaurants and bars along the waterways and plenty of pretty buildings and restaurants nestled on the main drag next to churches and the cathedral.

We were very pleasantly surprised. Such a pretty little place dwarfed by it’s neighbour but still busy on a Tuesday evening.
We chose a little restaurant down a side street and had fish for dinner followed by homemade Tiramisu. All washed down with a chilled litre of house Rose wine, with just a little bit of effervescence to tickle our tastebuds.

On the way back to the van we passed a fish festival event, very busy with clients enjoying a live cover band. How lovely. The place was rocking.
