Trasimeno and Cervia

GK Tours 2025. Saturday 21st June to Monday 23rd June

Passignano sul Trasimeno to Cervia, Italy

All I can say is, it’s just been too hot! Not rubbing it in, actually it’s quite the opposite.

What I wouldn’t do for 19° right now!

The lakeside campsite provided a little respite due to its pool and cold shower. The lake itself is a bit grotty so we, and Meg didn’t go in.

We took a walk down to the town early on Sunday morning before the heat got too much, only stopped for one drink, strolled along the little harbour and around the village and then literally hot footed it back to the van.

Passignano sul Trasimeno

Everywhere we had planned to visit was experiencing high 30+ temperatures so we have put those onto our list for when we return – earlier or later in the year than now 😀.

On Monday we decided to move closer to the sea.

We chose a free carpark in a lovely holiday area called Cervia. There are quite a few campsites and Aires here but none have shade, so we chose a grass carpark – no services, which we didnt need anyway – but just 400m from the beautiful sandy beach. No charge!

Cervia is just up the coast from Rimini and San Marino.

Arriving late afternoon, we ventured down to the beach. All along this coast the beaches have been taken over by Lido’s – bars and restaurants that offer sunbeds and umbrellas for a fee.

There are lifeguards for reassurance for parents etc. The particular Lido we walked into was very busy. You can book a sunbed pitch for your whole holiday if you like.

We chose some empty sunbeds at the front of the beach.

Gareth sat with Meg in the shade while I went to pay and get us a drink. The sunbeds were already booked out, so we had to move, but that was ok, we were still at the front. The cost was €17 for 1/2 a day.

I went into the sea with Meg to help cool us down. She wasn’t keen as the water is very shallow meaning that the waves were bopping her in the face. When I sat down in the water she was more interested in saving me so came out a further, bless her.

We all sat under the shade enjoying the lovely breeze for a couple of hours, Meg digging herself a cool spot in the sand. When I walked her along the beach later at the edge of the water, a lifeguard approached and told me that dogs were allowed on the beach but not in the water!!!

It was too hot to argue with him, who thinks they own the bloody sea? 🤬

Luckily she’s not that bothered. When the lifeguards went off shift, all the dog owners were in the water with their pooches, and rightly so.

Anyway, back at the van, still hot, we hid in the shade until dinner time.

Gareth popped across to the restaurant and grabbed us a pizza each, which we devoured, accompanied by a salad.
