Thursday 7th April 2026. Polignano a Mare, Puglia, Italy
Our next stop was Polignano a Mare. You may have seen it on social media as an amazing place to go so we had to check it out.
It was only a 20 mins drive south along the coast and there is a camper car park just outside. We had intended to relax and pop in to the town tomorrow but checking the weather, apparently its going to rain, boo, hiss! Plans were changed, we popped back on our walking shoes and followed the prom into town.
The coastline is beautiful and dramatic. The sun was in it’s descent but was still showing the sea in glorious blues.
When you actually see the town perched, precariously in my opinion, on the edge of the cliffs and rocks, it’s mind boggling how they are still there! Especially when you look at the coastline and see caves worn into it from the waves over time 
.
It was still warm as we made our way into the flagstoned narrow streets. We got the impression Polignano is built on a grid system, lots of crossroads lined with 2 and 3 storey houses. Some had their front doors set back so that the entrance acted like a natural shade for the summer heat.
There are lots of viewpoints for you to grab some amazing pics of the edge of the town, we could only guess at how busy this little place would be in the summer, it was busy now.
We came across a few Piazzas, heard them really before we saw them, all with busy cafes and bars, people grabbing a sundowner and meeting with friends and family.
We stopped too. Had a glass of local red wine and a limoncello spritz before wandering some more.
Polignano is really cute for shopping. Most of the establishments are tiny little cave like places. Some have made good use of the outside areas too.
There is a tiny beach here and to see it properly we stepped outside the walls of the old town, through a magnificent ancient gate and into a splendid ‘new’ town area. It was also very busy.
The beach was emptying, just a few stragglers left, we viewed it from the bridge, no point going all the way down 
.
These two stops today would make a good weekend jaunt, there’s enough to see and entertain you. Bari surprised us as we’ve always thought of it as just a port city, it isn’t just that and next time we use it for a ferry we’ll consider a stop to see it again.
