Tuesday 16th June 2026. Lake Iseo, Lombardy, Italy
Reading the weather reports we knew that Europe was heading for another heatwave.
This decided on our next stop, yes, another lake. We opted for Lake Iseo. As a general rule we don’t book ahead and this was one of those occasions when we wished we had.
Our chosen stop was full, so we drove to a village called Marone on the lake and chanced our arm.
Arriving at a spot where the entrances to 2 campsites converge, we picked one to try and strangely, there was not a single person around to help! There were other campers there who just stared.
That’s the sort of thing that puts us off so, instead of hanging around we left and popped into the very smart ACSI one next door called Campeggio Riva di San Pietro
As we pulled in we noticed the ‘full’ sign but thought we’d once again try our luck.
And this time our luck was in. They had one space left for one night! Whoohoo.
We were parked up in minutes and after a long chat with a really friendly German lady next door we walked down to the lake. About a minute’s walk 
.
What an amazing space, green lawn all along the front for people to lounge or sunbathe, under trees or in the sun. The lake is bordered by a short wall with seating areas every so often near the steps to get down into the lake.
It wasn’t long before we were in.
And it was glorious. Meg came in too, just long enough for it to cool her down.
Later we took ourselves out to dinner at the onsite restaurant where a 1/4 carafe of house red was €4 and the same for a white fizzy.
It was lovely too. We had chips with our dinner, the first in about 2 months!
This site has a dog walking area across the road, just big enough for Meg to have an off lead run around amongst the vegetation while I sheltered under the olive trees
