Monday 18th November 2024 Logrono to Soria
Just a quick note to say that I keep getting the date wrong on my updates. Apologies, today’s is correct 
.
The little car park we stopped in last night in Logrono was a good choice. The traffic noise died down quite early and didn’t wake me up until 7:47am .
We were planning on visiting the local bodega this morning but checking on Google, they don’t allow dogs so we didn’t bother.
Before leaving Logrono we popped to the supermarket for a few essentials and then headed due South into the mountains via a national park called Sierra de Cebollera to get to our next stop, Soria.
We don’t know anything about Soria, but have found out it’s a provincial capital in Castile and Leon.
The route through the national park was beautiful. The views of the mountains in mist, huge walls of rock imposing themselves upon the highway, with a glorious blue sky as it’s backdrop.
Wow! We have been so lucky these past few days. The road was very windy again as we climbed up and down, making me feel just a little bit dizzy .
Soria is flat in the middle but almost all the access roads are on a hill . You really need to be fit to live here.
We parked the van in the carpark of the football stadium and walked up to the old town. This took us through quite new residential areas before we arrived in the main square, Plaza Mayor.
First things first, a drink and a couple of Pinxtos for the weary travellers . The square was very quiet with only a couple of the bars open. We sat outside one and when Gareth went inside to order he understood why it was quiet, most of them were inside eating their late lunch .
The buildings here are mostly Romanesque, built with big blocks of what I assume is sand stone 
.
There are lots of Galician style buildings with their glass and wood galerias, and some have these wonderful, ornate balconies .
Today seemed a very sleepy day in Soria, there wasn’t a lot going on nor a lot of people wandering about.
The info boards for notable places include English so I’m assuming they have a heavier footfall in the summer.
Walking around to the newer parts of town we came to the park and an enormous electronic Christmas tree. We’re guessing it will look very impressive when the lights are turned on.
Lucky for us, the walk back to the van was all downhill . We had decided to stay the night next to the Duero River, where there are parking spots big enough for vans larger than ours and a splendid off-lead riverside walk for Meg.
One thing they seem to do well in Europe is their parks. This one has umpteen statues and art installed all along the river park, a couple of large childrens play areas and a big cafe and bar – closed today but looks a great spot for a drink in the summer.
We walked over some of the water on boardwalks to a small waterfall, more of a lovely sound than sight, Meg playing with a few other dogs as we strolled.
So tonight we are parked in this beautiful spot, I’m putting dinner together as the Spanish locals, run, walk and cycle their circuits past us. Very pleasant indeed
