Sangatte & home

Day 91, 92 & 93 24/25/26.6.23

Sangatte, France to UK

On Saturday we took the opportunity to pop into the local seafood restaurant, just 15mins walk along the beach.

This was our last chance for some moules and frites before heading home (everything is closed in France on Sundays).

We didn’t make a reservation and weren’t sure that they allowed dogs. As we approached the restaurant we saw that they don’t have an outside dining area and thought we may be out of luck. Gareth popped in and the lovely waiting staff gave us a table at the back of the restaurant. Perfect, Meg had lots of room to sleep (when she wasn’t waiting expectantly for some titbits).

The menu was mouthwatering. We ordered some Rosé wine and a bottle of our new favourite – fizzy water. Food wise we went straight for the main course. Gareth had the classic seafood plate (royale) and I had the moules in white wine with frites and a green salad.

There are always far too many mussels in a single serving but I tried my best 😁. Gareth’s seafood plate was amazing. It consisted of, half a crab, langostines, crayfish, small shrimp, whelks, periwinkles and four oysters, served with mayonnaise, vinagrette and bread.

Wow, we had a fab evening with quite a few laughs tackling the different seafood. To top it off, I ordered a café gourmand which we shared. Chocolate mousse, creme brulee and strawberries and cream. One portion was definitely enough for both of us.

The restaurant was very busy and the waiting staff were great, very attentive and happy in their work.

After, we walked back along the beach and let Meg have a good run. Sitting with quite a few others on the beach, we watched the sun set 😁.

Sunday was very hot so we used our time sorting out the van and giving her a much needed spruce up inside. We had enough sand in the cab and the boot to make our own beach!

At about 6pm we walked over to the beach for an hour, let Meg have her last run and dig of this trip.

Tomorrow we are up and away bright and early for the Eurotunnel.

We have had the best time on this trip, discovering new places and seeing so many wonderful sights. There is still so much to see!

We hope you’ve enjoyed covering the 7,000 miles and 12 countries with us. Thank you to those who have already commented, and for those who haven’t, drop us a ‘like’ to let us know who’s been along for the ride😊.

That’s all for now folks 😁. Hopefully we’ll see you all soon. Gareth, Kelly and Meg ❤️
