To Sangatte

Day 90. 23.6.23.

Bray-Dunes to Sangatte.

This morning I walked Meg down to the Boulangerie for a french stick and some croissants which we had with our breakfast.

Gareth chose an ACSI campsite in Sangatte. We’ve never been but some of you might know the name as it’s quite famous for the refugee problem it has had in the past. The campsite has really good reviews so we thought we’d give it a go.

On the way we stopped in the hypermarket near the channel tunnel for some last minute goodies and cheeses 😋.

Arriving at the campsite we were very happy to be in luck and were given a great pitch. Much like the Aire, over the last few hours the campsite has filled up.

We can see why it’s popular. Not just because it’s only 15mins drive from Eurotunnel but it’s very spacious, lots of foliage and just across the road from the beach.

After setting up and getting some washing done we headed over to see what the beach was like. There were two policeman on duty, something we’ve seen before in this area.

The beach isn’t as deep as Dunkirk but as the tide was out, we had fun watching Meg zoomy right down to the water’s edge and around in circles 😁. It’s been a while since she has had freedom on a big beach 🥰.

From the beach you can see the constant too’ing and fro’ing of the cross channel ferries. They are so close you don’t have to strain your eyes to read which line they are. We could also just make out the UK headland on the horizon, amazing.

Further down the beach were kite surfers, the windy conditions perfect for them.

The weekend is supposed to be lovely here so we are just going to slog out until early Monday for our train home. In the meantime we’ll have our work cut out preventing Meg from chasing the variety of animal life roaming around the site. So far we’ve seen wild rabbits and a stray chicken that had obviously escaped from the coup 😁.
