Sarreguemines

24th April

Thursday arrived and it was dry, yay. Gareth has decided to drive a few long days to get us down to Italy, so after filling up with supplies at the supermarket opposite the Aire we headed out of Blankenberge.

And, as we were driving out, alongside railway lines, it suddenly came back to me why it was so familiar.

We had been to Blankenberge as a stop on our mini cruise. The ship docks in Zeebrugge, the transfer bus drops you at Blankenberge train station, where you get the train into Bruges 😁, thank goodness i still have some memory!

Gareth was very surprised at this, because he remembers me being very hungover and just staring straight ahead the whole time we were on the bus – concentrating on Not being unwell 🤣.

Haha, good times.

Our drive took us through 4 country borders, from Belgium, through to Luxembourg – where we filled up with cheaper fuel – on through Germany and then back into France, stopping for the night in a little Aire on a canal and river in Sarreguemines, just over the border from Saarbrucken.

Bless Parker, he was tired after 6 hours of driving, and all credit to him, he only swore once.

We had airfried Gammon steaks, mash, brocolli and green beans for dinner topped with a cheese sauce. Yum, yum.

After dinner we took Meg along the towpath for a run out, we had to watch her carefully as she was very interested in the bank!.

Moored along the canal was a barge painted to look like a cruise ship, really cute but looking a bit jaded.
