Sunday 11th May
Tollare, to Saint-Florent, Corsica
It was lovely and hot when we woke up this morning, and soon after 8am a guy came to strim the weeds. On a Sunday? Yep, on a Sunday. Maybe he was just trying to get out of church
.
The gardener informed us that work was being started to complete the Aire at 8am on Monday morning, and to make sure we had left by then to avoid getting stuck or our vans damaged.
He was a really nice guy with a bright, happy smile who didn’t talk english, but I got the gist of what he was saying.
There was a German registered van opposite us, and when the gardener was talking to the occupants, there seemed to be some difficulty with him being understood, so he called me over – I was walking Meg. Oh god, I can only just understand the odd word, I wasnt holding out much hope to be helpful, but I tried.
As I explained to the couple what the gardener was trying to say say, the german man then said that he understood French very well, he lives just across the border in Freidberg – I said, oh it’s lovely there, and he then said that the gardener was being rude as he didnt have a letter, there was no notice and he was telling us this at 8am in the morning.
I said, well, there will be machinery here, so they’ll need the place empty. He said, yes I underatand but the gardener’s approach was not very friendly! I looked at the smiley gardener and said, I don’t know about that, I think he has a lovely smile
, and walked away.
What a bloody cheek, we’ve been allowed to stay for free, and this German wants to shoot the messenger!.
You just can’t please everybody.
Anyway, onwards with our cheery selves. We were packed and on our way at 10am. Blimey, thats good for us.
The route today was just amazing. I’ve taken so many pics of the scene that played out in front of us as we drove the squirly coast road. At times I just had to look the other way as the drop was sheer and my fear threatened to get the better of me.
I did offer to drive so Parker could take in the breathtaking views and then we laughed
, he would not have lasted a minute in the passenger seat, whether I was driving or not
.

And, to make it real, I took a pic of a car that had gone over the side
.
We took a turning off of the coast road down to a small hamlet with a little harbour. The sun was shining and we fancied a coffee. When we got to the harbour there was a sign saying no motorhomes, which we ignored, ours “is a Van Officer”, and parked up by a restaurant.
It was so lovely and peaceful watching the world go by sipping on a frappé each. Gareth helped a lovely young couple manoeuvre their RIB into a position so that they could then launch it.

The restaurant started to get busy, yes it was 12pm and the french person’s internal clock chimes that it is time to eat
.
Back on the road, we stopped a number of times to drink in the view or let other vehicles past, before arriving at our destination which is a busy little place called Saint-Florent. We’ve chosen a little campsite about 25 mins walk from the town and will venture in tomorrow. The campsite is ACDSI and called U Prezzo

This afternoon we went to the beach across the road where Meg had her first proper swim of the holiday, retrieving her beloved ball. She then proceeded to dry herself off in the sand and dry seaweed, goodness me, what a mess, but boy, did she have fun.
We attempted to relax, Gareth in his chair and me on the beach mat, but sadly, relax is a word Meg doesn’t understand. As far as she is concerned, sand is for digging and she doesn’t care who, what or where the dug sand goes, inevitably it goes on us!
Haha, all of a sudden the clouds came over and we thought it might rain so we made a hasty retreat to the van.
I’ve made a beef stew for our tea, we’ve showered and are looking forward to a mooch around the town tomorrow, maybe in the rain but we don’t really care
