Olhas de Agua, Portugal
Olhos de Agua was a great stop. There are two motorhome areas next door to each other. For some reason, the first one is always full. You can’t book a spot so just have to take your chance. The place next door had a space for us as we didn’t need electricity. It’s called: Parque Caravanas Açoteias
We were shown a spot near the back of the camper stop, which was great for us as it was nearer the beach.
Once we had set up, we wandered through the back of the site into a sand and pine forest.
The numerous paths led us to the stunning cliff face, it’s almost Jurassic! The cliff walls are red and white, and the rock formations, visible from many years of soft earth erosion, remind you of giant boney feet or giant tree roots seen in the jungle!
It’s an amazing coastline that takes your breath away! Coupled with the gorgeous view across the Atlantic ocean your eyes are truly spoilt.
We walked along the cliff edge following well trodden paths, passing the local police on horseback – what a job! – and then down to the soft, sandy beach.
Turning back in the direction we had come, we let Meg have a good run on the sand while we walked in awe at the scenery.
There is evidence of soft earth slides which makes you realise that this beautiful landscape can also be dangerous.
Sadly there were no open beach bars for us to relax in.
Every now and again you happened upon staircases leading you back up to the pine forest and it wasn’t difficult for us to find our way back to the correct camper stop
