Rojales to San Javier, Mar Menor.
We left the Rojales area and made our way to our next campsite on Mar Menor in San Javier. It’s on the beach of the Mar Menor Sea lagoon, with a military training airport directly behind it. It’s called: Camping Mar Menor
It was a gorgeous day when we arrived and set up, our pitches were front row. A fabulous view across to La Manga, a strange strip of land identified by the many high buildings rising on the horizon.
I have to say the sunrise and sunset in this area are absolutely amazing. The shallow water of the Mar Menor gently meets the gritty sand of the beach here, with areas of natural beauty and wildlife to walk through.
Not a bad spot to spend a few days. There’s a restaurant and bar right next door and for some reason we didn’t take the opportunity to try it out.
We didn’t go in the sea and didn’t allow the dogs free-run either as the shoreline was dotted with jellyfish, no idea if they were nasty ones or not so we erred against it.
Just after setting up we were treated to an air display by the Spanish equivalent of the Red Arrows. They’re called Patrulla Águila which translates as Eagle Patrol.
What timing! (It was the only time they flew all weekend). It was as if they had waited for our arrival and celebrated with a show that had us wowing and gasping, as they flew across the Mar Menor 
.
On Friday we took a ride out in our van to La Manga, described by one website as a ‘paradise between two seas’.
Not sure about that, we didn’t really see anything that attracted us or invited us to stop for a while, so after a quick coffee in a small café, we headed back to the campsite via the supermarket.
In the afternoon we had dinner cooked on Gareth’s new gas BBQ. Delicious. We also ate outside as the sun was just starting to fade.
This was a chance to get our laundry done and sort out the vans. I have no idea why, but I always seem to choose the wrong machine! Our washing took 18 hours as the machine just kept washing, never getting to the spin 
. Eventually the maintenance guy was called and said washing released.
Yesterday we took a walk through the nature reserve and on to the next town, a very pleasant walk with a lovely beach for the dogs to play on. The sun was shining BUT the wind had a real chill to it, enough so that coats were still necessary if you couldn’t sit out of the wind.
Marley dog is recuperating from a recent operation so is not allowed too much exercise, this meant us leaving Andrew and Jane to walk back to camp while we walked into the centre of town looking for shops.
What we found was a big and busy Saturday market 
. I’m not quite sure how it happened but we came away from the market with half a ton of olives, 3 different flavours and some cheese stuffed pepper things 
.
We should remember not to make eye contact with people . They are all delicious and will see us right through to January, I’m sure .
On Friday and Saturday night we tried to stay up to view the shooting stars – Geminids, but there was too much light pollution around us as well as a very bright full moon. Oh well, at least we tried. I hope some of you got to see them.
Quite an uneventful weekend but very relaxing.
